Spicy Margarita Mocktail
I began my travels in my early 20s by working on cruise ships. When you only have a few hundred dollars in your bank account, any form of work that lets you to get paid while docking in ports all over the world is a major win, and I had a lot of fun. The Caribbean run was one of my favorite itineraries since it meant that every week we'd dock in a port along Mexico's Caribbean coast and I'd run off with friends to drink margaritas and stuff our faces with tacos in some random bar on some beach. A successful port day was always measured by how tipsy and sunburned we were when we returned to the ship, and no matter how much energy we had left, we'd always take a quick power nap and return to work in the evening as if our day had been a distant dream.
So let’s talk about this drink.
The most famous origin story for the Margarita dates back to 1938. Danny Herrara, the owner of a restaurant in Tijuana, Mexico, invented the drink for a dancer named Marjorie King, who only drank tequila. So Herrerra put together salt and lime juice to produce an early version of the drink, and this same-style drink later caught the attention of an Irish news editor who picked it up accidentally while passing through the area and fell in love with it.
I can see why, because I did as well, so I tried creating a non-alcoholic version of the Spicy Margarita.
